The Creation of Marriage #2
Marriage is a creation of the Creator. That sounds so simple doesn’t it? But it can be quite problematic if anyone does not believe in God.
If God does not exist, marriage must be defined by human beings. Man must create his own version of marriage. Observing the changes that have been implemented over the past several years, marriage becomes whatever man wants it to be. Where will marriage be as an institution a few years from now? Some would argue that it may not even exist.
Marriage is the cornerstone of human relationships according to God’s Word. If the cornerstone is broken, the entire building is subject to collapse. The cornerstone or foundation stone is the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, important since all other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure.
Think about the following:
1. If marriage was not created by God, where and when did it originate?
2. If marriage was not created by God, it must be defined by some authority to understand what it is? Who should that authority be?
The link between marriage and God is absolute, unalterable and forever permanent. Marriage is the cornerstone set by God upon which the human family is built. We break that cornerstone and we break the foundation. “If a man rolls a stone, it will roll back on him” Proverbs 26:27. Some things are untouchable, immutable, sacred…..marriage as created by God is one of those things.
Marriage is the image of God Himself therefore it is permanent and perfect as originally designed. Just as God is three Persons in One perfectly united into the Trinity, marriage is two persons (male and female) in One Flesh intended to last “till death do us part”.
Haven’t you read, he replied, that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”?So they are no longer two but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.Matthew 19:4-6
